Yes Lights and End Of Show Music..fully..

But a "certain Zoner" told me..right as Shelter Ended..she heard there would be a 3rd set..

I called bullshit..she rolled her eyes.....

I hung around to see if she was correct..

at 7 minute mark into Faux Show Over..Roadies stealthly pulled set2 setlist taped on amps off ..and taped new full sheet setlist in their place

Then a minute later (the 8 minute mark)..Phil came out..

Not the Donor Rap..

"Im so jealous. Man "

im jealous of myself! Damn that was one of if not the most epic Phil show I have EVER seen and it was SOOOOOOO much fun as well! Phil appeared to be having a blast and Joan was awesome! I looked up and she was jamming on the drums with the most infectious smile! So got a huge hand when she got back up to the mic from behind the drum kit!Nothing can beat what I saw last night so I may have my first good meal and spend the rest of the time gambling and enjoying Vegas.

(hoping we get soundboards of that!)

Next Phil stop for me Atlantic City.,...if I can wait that long.

Amazing....haven't seen a concert celebration on this epic of a scale since the PLQ new years shows in Oakland. The announcement of a third set was like a message from heaven. Very odd the way that transpired, people leaving, people gazing stupidly at the stage, wandering around...nobody knew of a third set....we just couldnt bare to leave after the china rider. My best friend was one of the unlucky ones who did.

Phil was the most outragous and animated....fuckin intense, then hilarious then so peacful and serene at times, almost angelic. He was directing the music and cues (through the mic) with more passion and precision than I have ever seen. A lot of perfect shimmering endings, lullaby style. His intensity on TOO was almost overwhelming...and he ATTACKED his bass on Gimme Shelter. What an amazing human being.

Jimmy was super loud! And sweet. And I like the pairing of him and Sless, as it is less sonically competitive than with Warren. You had to work to hear the pedal steel...but his parts were very tasteful and evocitive.

Joan was absolutely perfect. The one thing the set list can't show is how good those Adams' ballads she sang are. Every bit as polished and powerful as the Dead stuff. Sweet Carolina and Miss You...are so meloncholy. She was adorable behind the drum kit on bird song...it's like she is playing with her big brothers, and is very humble, leaves the stage every time Phil nods at her. Blues, country, rock and jazz....this show had it all.

Sipe was super jazzy during TOO and it reminded me a bit of Kruetzman in the mid 70s. He is more restrained than MOLO, so again, this line-up really allows the songs to breathe.

Headband? Something tells me he had been lobying with Phil to play Loser for years, and he finally got his chance. It was sublime. So emotional, so powerful...JERRY lives! (wait til you hear Jimmys solo) The three part harmonies were immaculate all night.

Other highlights included a wicked blues jam in the middle of Pride of Cucamunga....a 1/2 time syncopated No More Do I, an out of control Cumberland, a super super slow, gut-wrenching China Doll...and daring, energetic interprations of China Cat and the Wheel.

Sless took all of the leads for Gimme Shelter and nailed them while Jimmy and Phil banged their heads on the bar chords. Rob and Joan shared lead vocals...and Rob was PUMPED!

Jimmy accidentially went into Death Dont....in the st stephen slot. Phil stopped him and said "never mind that"....into the mic. Hilarious. I had never seen a member give away a song before.

Before the Mule show on Friday I ran i ran into Jimmy and his wife in the casino. NICE, gentle, kind, humble people. Then, four hours later, we're exiting the Hard Rock and Phil and Jill Lesh are walking in toward us...we all exchanged high fives. Unforgettable.

Same can be said about the Bimbos show. Phil driving the bus at warp speed, don't let it pass you by folks, hop on board this fall, don't forget to wear those seat belts, you're gonna need 'em.

Oh my... good show.... very good show. I put this one as a contender for best live preformance at the next jammys. Phil was absolutely pumped for this performance. Everyone played very well. Joan was a tremendous asset to the lineup. I feel very lucky to have been there. Reminded me of 12-19-04.... but different. Phil is a master faye atracter.

Gimme Shelter. Amazing.

Just got home from Vegas, and I'm way past exhausted, but I just had to say that.

The last hour of the show had been almost physically painful, I was so tired. This was after Bimbo's on Thursday night, Mule at the Joint on Friday night, two days of dancing in the sun at the festival....By the fifth hour of Phil this morning I was sort of nauseous and having a hard time standing up. (I remember thinking "I can't believe we're here rocking to St. Stephen at 4 in the morning" and needing to sit down)

And then the first wailing notes of Gimme Shelter, and rocking so hard.

Again.

Thank you Phil and your amazing friends! (And to all you guys who can articulate better than I at present.)

Sleep, please...

>>> does anyone know why they pulled the show before off btree? <<<

Just a guess, but if it was taped from a broadcast, usually the broadcast is copyrighted and owned by the broadcaster. Kinda like that "express written consent of Major League Baseball" thing. So Btree may have pulled it for legal reasons.

If it was taped at the stadium by someone with a taper ticket, then it's OK. Taper did the work with his own equipment & had the rights to do so with his ticket. Different legal aspect.

Give the tapers a chance to get home & upload & hopefully, we'll see it.

Phil plays from Midnight to 5:05am and let's VEGOOSE know who is DA MAN! What a over the top show. Just when you thought you've seen it all, Phil & Friends deliver more and more...

What an amazing venue and Phil's resonance agreed with the room. What a treat to see Barry Sless play WOLF on Uncle John's, China Cat, & Birdsong. The sounds that come from that guitar reminded many of us of 20 years ago! The Peggy-O was so sweet with Phil, Rob, & Joan sharing verses and the Viola Lee was massive.

It was hilarious when Phil came out at just past 3:30am as people were starting to leave and announced - "We're playing 3 sets tonight" AHHHH how I have longed to hear those words!

Some friends of mine and I were joking around, saying "Someone wake up Warren, he needs to be here!" We were cracking up, saying that Warren was jamming with Steve & Edye. To boot, the 3rd set starts off with Barry playing Wolf and Joan playing the drums! Classic stuff... The 3rd set seem to have a bunch of the "Death" songs, and all played with intensity and fervor. St. Stephen was as good as it gets!

The Gimme Shelter was one of those moments were the music and the energy in the place transcends description. We have all had those moments at shows, and this was off the hook!

Let's hope that Phil blesses us with a nice crispy soundboard! There were very few tapers, and a couple of them broke down and left before the 3rd set.

Thank you Phil!

Hi all, just back in from Vegas...a trip that wasn't supposed to happed did. I get a joint tickect Friday....slug thru 2 hrs of LA traffic to get 'em and boy I'm glad I did... unfortuneately I didn't get to see the Sat shows, but saw the Vegoose all day Sunday. Nice fest by the way, esp. being the first year, well done...

...back to "The Joint"...after being "festing" all day, 1pm-10pm...legs were allready hurtin'...gotta say one of the strangest places I've ever seen a show...in the middle of the casino with hippies and all sotrs of people mixing it up...hillarious...

...the show was amazing. I was freaking the whole time. I was just off to the front on Phils side...and there was room even..you mean I can dance my ass off...see the band from 2 people deep...and it is loud?? Simply fantastic! THe Pride of Cucamonga was amazing...I LOVE SLESS on the pedal steel on those country tunes...does them such good justice...my mind is mush recalling all....the FTOD, Loser 1st set stuff was epic....and yes EVERYONE MUST HEAR THE SHETLER! That was one of the hardest-rocking numbers I've ever seen anywhere....the joints in my knees are shot...the Joan songs that I didn't know slowed things down a bit, but I really did like her, soulful, tasteful, and not annoying...a nice addition....unbroken chain...death dont....I turned and asked someone what time it was...at the second intermission.."uh....3:45"....When I finally got back to the hotel, it was 6:30 a.m...just in time to call in sick to work....

thanks phil....

I gotta sleep

This show was completely over the top...Three fuckin' high energy sets..Phil: I don't know how you do it. Joan delivered her sultry vocals and sassy strutting giving each tune some amazing grace. When the Blues Brothers came out the place went nutz. I didn't see any tapers but I'm sure that there were some..I sure hope so because The Joint show was off the hook. That Gimmie Shelter tore the roof off The Joint. When we walked out of the show at 5:15 the sun was just rising over the hills giving us another glow. When was the last time that's happened?

Phil ~ we need this music ~ like right now!

>>>Good Times (Joan) (This is NOT called "Let The Good Times Roll!")

Are we talking about a different song? Not the blues standard e.g. Louis Jordan and BB King.

As the others have said ....a tremendous show. Fantastic chemistry between the players, particularly Barry and Jimmy.

Joan (thank you Joan!) proved once again she brings something special to Hunter/Garcia tunes. I was so very happy to hear her and the three part harmonies. I would love to see her as a regular friend.

I also thought Sipe's drumming was strong (so was Joan's!), some very well timed fills and lifts - although I am embarrased to admit I once shouted `nice beats Molo' in an euphoric moment.

What a night.... see ya'll at the fox.

Oh...

I should add that Dark Star was originally on the set list for the third set and attics was to be the first encore. Joan had to leave for a flight so no attics

Vegoose?

What can I say?

These reviews hit it on the head. 3 fantastic shows in 4 days. I'm Beat but smiling :-)

Only complaint was that the Joint was oversold. But what do you expect? Killer times, good people, crazy town, great festival. Phil, on fire, dropping so many huge bombs this weekend. The energy, people, the energy!!!

I need some energy right about now :-O

See you all at the New Years run

just gotta comment that the ryan song "everything i do" is actually not a ryan adams song, but a whiskeytown (ryan's old band) song...its off of their album stranger's almanac, and the full title is everything i do (miss you)...fucking brilliant song. ryan sings the shit out of it...i wish i could've heard joan do it.

Geeze, I'm still paying the price for no sleep. late night shows everynight are hurting me now. Up 'til 6 every night. Had to leave during Phil's 3rd set. I just couldn't go anymore. The music was so fucking great, but I had honestly run out. I had a 7am wake up call for an early flight out(bad call). I stumbled out of the Phil show at about 4:45....Dazed, blown away & done. Cooked to the core. Got to bed around 6.
Phil brought it in every way. Too good to review. Too burned out to try.
Joan was gorgeous, Barry & Jimmy locked in like never before, Phil was a dancing madman, Mookie was right there! PHIL IS AN ANIMAL!!!!!!!

When Phil came out to announce set 3, as people were milling about & milling out...I just shook my head.. Phil, Your killing me....... China Cat WAS SICKNESS with Wolf....

I'll review later. I just can't get my head straight yet......

Most of It has been said this was an awsome show, I'm glad I decided to rest up on sunday to be fresh for the show 'cause I needed it. I spent the entire show in front of Phil one person back from the rail and IT was magical.A couple of things not mentioned Phil came out at 5 and said I like to play all night but people have planes to catch or something like that. I also saw the setlist for the third set and a few tunes were not played,Dark Star,Caution, the rest of Cryptical and Attics of My Life were on paper but didn't make it. Oh well what we did get was spectacular. Thank you Phil and your Great Friends and all us music lovers for creating a wonderful time in space. Is it New Years yet???????

Just got back from Vegas and can't beleive I saw an "all night" show from Phil. Simply Amazing. I know music keeps you youthful but a 66-67 year old man playing the way he did from 12:15 to 5:15am!!!! Incredible.
There have been some nice comments above. Here's some input from my memory:
Phil's playing all night was great but on Loser it was the perfect touch of light and heavy. Very beautiful melodic runs while at the same time dropping phil bombs that sonically blew you away. Also helped that I was standing 20 feet from Phil's amp stack.
Before the show, as we were lined up waiting in the casino for them to let us in, Phil came walking by us as one of the regular casino crowd. He had a huge grin on his face, said hello to a couple of people as he walked past us, then turned and walked into the front door of The Joint.
It's too bad so many people got shut out of this show, b/c it was a special night.

Monstrous show, when you combine it with the set at the festival and the Bimbo's show it makes for one of the most impressive Phil runs in history and I can say that with convidence after only seeing this line up at the Joint performance. God willing there will be SBDs of it all. Thank you Phil, you provide nearly all the shelter my soul needs.

Only after hearing Phil Lesh & Friends play a few years ago did I really understand his significant in the GD. Turn it up Phil!

Good show. I wasn’t feeling 100% as a result of a gut wrenching food poisoning experience that occurred from eating at Denny’s earlier that day, oh that hurt. My buddy finally talked me into going to dinner around 9 pm at the “Pink Taco” located in the Hardrock Casino and Phil, Jill and son came in for dinner and sat two tables away. They seemed very excited and upbeat. Following dinner they did a bit of shopping in the stores nearby. I really wanted to go over and tell him what a great job he did on the book, but thought I’d give him the space. I really loved the book if you’re reading this Phil.

My experience of the show standing about 12-rows back immediately in front Joan: From the first notes Phil was in charge and I really like it that way! At one point in the second set (Loser?) Phil back Joan off her mike as he wanted to take it by himself. I saw Jimmy share a few big smiles across the stage during the first set. Jimmy can sure play that guitar and I really like the approach he takes on personalizing it. Rob Barraco, all I can say is “Let Rob sing!” Joan, I sort of find her overwhelming at times and may be bias from the Jones Beach shows a few years back. Sometime it is not what you play or sing, but what you don’t that completes the picture; Garcia did that so well. Highlights for me this night in the order played were Peggy-O, Loser and Lovelight!

Epic show. 2 fully stocked bars on the floor. You could go out to casino at any time as rentry was allowed. This allowed the stub swap, which helped lead to the place becoming way overcroweded. By the 3rd set I saw people just pouting through the door. Many of these were from the costume party held at another club in The Hard Rock.
Gimme Shelter

WOW!!!
Just got back from what has to be one for the ages and I consider myself extremely lucky to have been able to attend.Phil Rocked the Joint. The whole scene bordered on the surreal.Costumed patrons of another party at the Hard Rock added to the freakiness.Only in Vegas!Phil was doing song ending leg kicks.I felt bad for those who left after set two thinking it was over.I really can't pull out a favorite from the list, which I couldn't remember in its entirety until I saw it posted, but overall the Band was great.Hats off to Joan for coming up BIG!She added class and a sexy edge to her soulful contribution.Great to hear Rob on vocals again as he pours love and a genuine appreciation to what he's playing, and Jimmy, well he's a real anchor to this band. The Rock .Everytime I see him I come away more impressed .He adds life and his own flair to leads and jams and though they may be different than our canned expectations thay are fluid and alive. Now Phil, he delivered! He obviously puts alot of him into each performance,he poured it out.He does not just go through the motions. My friend and I were walking by the joint at about 10a.m.the morning of the show and figured we would check it out ,when we opened the first set of doors it became apparent we were hearing the rehearsal/sound check and dispite hearing some parts of the songs we were to hear later it was fascinating to hear the band work through some of the changes based on Phil's direction like how long to hold the note in UJB(how does the song gooo?)after listening for about 1/2 hour they ended. My day was changed! Thanks Phil for a real good time.See you all down the road.

The past week in San Fran and Las Vegas was full of contrasting images giving much to consider bout health, happiness, having fun and value systems..

And abundant seeded contemplations via songs Phil selected...

The Joint setlist..

Saw Phil behind amps..10 minutes before show..alone..holding flipping thru looking at pages..I assumed setlist..he did that a few times thru..prior to band huddle...

I remember Joint show..Phil talking to me saying........

"You can tell the Queen of Diamonds by the Way She Shines.."

I had to pay $175 for a ticket outside. I didn't think twice if I overpaid b/c I knew I was going to see Phil and it would be worth every penny. I probably could have "snuck in" or did the ticket swap, but that's not my style. I hate having to do stealth shit like that. Actually you pretty much could have walked in, but I didn't know what the situation was gonna be like. Phil was way better than I expected he'd be too. Driving the jams like Keruoac driving Furthur...all over the place.

I can not put into words how much fun i had at this show and how incredible the music continues to be under phils guidance.

It was a blast hanging with rev dewitt tim poppa g the cop and so many others...also getting to go to mule show with kevmule and canyon was great...and watching the bears win in overtime to bring home the $$$$ for me and bud greene topped it off...gdad i got your phone message, but my phone is broken. i have been blown safely home though.

Get in the groove and let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it takes all night long
Come on and let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it takes all night long :-)

The evening sun is sinking low
The clock on the wall says it's time to go
I got plans, and I got plans for you
I tell you exactly what we're all gonna do :-)

It might be twelve o'clock and it might be three
Time doesn't mean that much to me
Ain't felt this way since I don't know when
Might not feel this way again

It might be six o'clock and it might be eight
It don't matter that it's getting late
We're gonna make the band play one more song
Get in the groove if it takes all night long

All night (all night)
All night (all night)
If it takes all night (all night)
You know it might take all night long (all night)
All night long (all night)
All night long (all night)

Get in the groove and let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it takes all night long:-)

The reason people were leaving is the show was already awesome and a lot of people thought there couldn't possibly be any more. I'm glad I stuck around to decompress instead of jetting out of the casino. GIMME SHELTER!!!! WAS INCREDIBLE!!!! What an unbelievable amount of energy coming off the stage during that song. They nailed that rough, metallic sound you hear on the Stones' original. T H E P L A C E W E N T N U T S. ...if i don't get some shelter, ooh yeah, i'm gonna fade away... Looking around from the back everyone was doing the same tight sort of tai-bo dance, and singing every word beautifully with the band. Definitely the highlight of my whole weekend. OHHHHH, CHILDREN!!! IT'S JUST A SHOUT AWAY!!! IT'S JUST A SHOUT AWAY!!!!! Joan sang it and she nailed it. LOVE, SISTER!!!! IT'S JUST A KISS AWAY!!! IT'S JUST A KISS AWAY!!!! Everything they played was incredibly tight. The sound was beautiful and Phil seemed more masterful than usual. He was loving it. What a great band. Could easily be my favorite incarnation to date. Rob was back with a vengeance and LOSER had to be another huge highlight. Best Loser I've heard in years. Jimmy didn't try to interpret Jerry's guitar solo, he treated us to a sweet, sweet rendition of a '77 Jerry solo, unbelievable. And what can you say about a three-set Phil show that includes Pride of Cucamonga, Unbroken Chain, and Box of Rain encore? Happy New Year's!? That's what I was saying to people.

>>>Third best show of the week for me. Cream, Robert Randoff and Family Band, then Phil. Great festival.

I have to say that the Robert Randolph show will be forever in my top 10 shows. It was completely, and utterly un-fucking-believably incredible.

No Dark Star for sure. GDad and I were taking a bit of a break and I remember saying that if they did one more "slow tune", no matter how achingly beautiful, I would have to take a cab back to my hotel. I was stretching my legs, and feet out, and just as I opened the door, MINDFUCK.

As much as a mind fuck as the opening notes to Sunshine of Your Love were at One for Woody.

Big B - You are Aces. TJW - you too, are Aces.

Buddy and GDad, thank you for a real good time.

The only thing separating this show from epic might have been a Till The Morning Comes encore.

Musical comments: Joan can keep a beat, B&M cannot. Joan is an asset of incredible value to this line-up. She was a total fit in this ensemble...the size, the tone, it all.

Of the 45 shows I've seen Phil & Friends, this show was the keeper! The next best show was Hartford, CT (The Meadows) in Summer of 2001. Las Vegas, The Joint, Halloween morning - what else can you say?? Also, when was the last time anyone seen Phil played until 5:05am??? Phil is 64 years old and he had more energy than anyone else in the room that morning!! I will never, ever forget this show as long as I live!

I think Phil is 65...66 in March..

His pulling a prank on almost 2000 people..

And playing his bass guitar like I have never seen before..

From Good Times Roll to Box Of Rain..

Bimbo's to AT-40..

Vegas or Bust..

Was "Just Like The Good Old Days" ..

..

Yes it was!
Opening notes even shut up some of the noisy crowd, albeit, briefly.
Has any body heard a good recording?
The one I downloaded was a stealth aud that sounded like crap.
The opening notes to Gimme Shelter also shut the crowd up. What a scorchin' breakout.
Nice to see the Stones gettin' some props after so many Beatles' covers.
Now, where is my Moonlight Mile encore, Phil

I would just like to share my great experience in Las Vegas. I'm 19 years old and went to Vegas for my first time with my boyfriend and a friend for Vegoose. We went to the Hard Rock Hotel/Casino without tickets to Phil Lesh and Friends at the Joint. When I was in the crowded Hard Rock Casino/Hotel, I was holding up a sign that said, "I NEED A MIRACLE FOR PHIL" hoping to get a ticket, and I got one! The show was so intimate, I couldn't believe I was in the second row jammin out to Phil. I wish I could thank the guy who gave me that free ticket more than I did, it really was a miracle that I got to go in. I had so much fun!!! Phil played a such a great show. It was as if it was Phil was playing just for me. I'm definitely going to buy an extra ticket to an upcoming Phil show, and give someone else the feeling I got of getting a miracle, it's amazing.

-Cassie =)
