So here's my $0.02. There were so many rumours... Who will the friends be; will there be a "Special Guest" (re; Warren, Trey, Dylan, Q Reunion, etc...). Most of the posts were negative. Everyone had someone they wanted to see, and someone they did not want to see. I was surprised that the vibe was more into negative than positive (especially on a phan site) but hell, it's been a long strange trip. I have never seen (or actually heard) Ryan Adams so all the talk piqued my curiosity and I was hoping for a 1st show appearance. I liked the covers from Vegas so I wanted to see something new.

The first show was solid. Larry and Barry seem to play together better every time I see them (5 times in December). I hope that they play together more. Both have "big ears" and that's what Phil is all about, listening and reacting. I enjoyed the 1st night immensely and on hindsight think, RA was a "scheduled guest" (4 RA songs) but for some reason did not attend.

The second night started out great! The third set with my new phriends and the band was growing in leaps and bounds. Yesterday was great, but this 1st set... where do we go from here...

ENTER WARREN. Second set for me was "old home week". Warren, Phil and Baracco played together in many version of P&F, and this was a sweet mix, music was great, harmonies were on the money. Second show and I'm thinking, this is it I hit the "Golden" show.

THIRD NIGHT: I enter the theater early and spot Trey coming in. A "new" old Phriend. Trey was great, came to the front of the stage and spoke with Phans, signed stubs and was just a gracious guest. He and Barry did a little tune-up jam. It was very nice!!! Unfortunately this is the only time we saw Barry all night. I was never a Phish fan but the energy was amazing! Trey added a new texture to the music. Vocals again were great. I was blown away!!!

So here we are; six sets into the run. In my opinion, each set was better than the next. Two more at the Beacon and I can't even imagine what Phil has in store. Whatever it is...

((((THANKS PHIL!))))

Said my piece, let the bashing begin...

Missed Friday's Beacon show. Seems like you either loved it of didn't from what I heard. Most people didn't.

Saturday was one of the most amazing shows I've ever been to. Personally I loved the first set more, but did enjoy most of the 2nd set--and a THREE SONG ENCORE to top it off. I have to say that I really liked the 2 Ryan Adams songs.

I was worried about the energy level going into last night's show. Haven't Trey there took care of that. Excellent, high energy show with a very interesting song selection--especially the first set. I felt that the Sunday show complimented the Saturday show very well.

With such long shows, driving in the snow and little sleep, I've decided to skip Tuesday's show--so I've still got Wednesday at the Beacon and the final night of the NYC run at Hammerstein. Since they're playin at Mexicali on Friday and Saturday, I'm hopin' that some of Railroad Earth sits in on Sunday.

"In Phil we Trust"

cool, I'll write my quick reviews for the first three nights in this thread.

anyhow, friday night. heard what the lineup was supposed to be and hoped that was the case. was glad to see joan, et al come out on stage. kinda odd first set with all the RA tunes, but I still thought it was pretty good. at one point, I thought they were about to bust out throwin' stones, but spliffy told me that's how the jam in the RA song went. also cool to hear them bust out playin'.
second set was also good. great unbroken and great birdsong. Phil and Joan sounded great together on the latter. good lovin' was rockin'. I know they didn't leave the stage, but I thought h>s>franks was the encore. was stoked when they came back for casey jones, always fun to hear that one.

saturday night. first set much better than the prior night, imo. started out on upper balc, sitting with jojo but this old, hippy looking dude kept yelling out and singing along, so we had to leave. so it goes. china rider was good, but it really took off during scarlet, I thought. wheel was great. camberland smoked and personally, I thought uncle john's was fabulous though I think I talked to a few people who thought it was weak. I remember thinking barry mandolin really sounding great on this one!!
Warren comes out for the second set, sweet! not the biggest warren fan here, but I knew we'd be in for a great night and he really didn't disapoint. the triple encore sealed the deal!

Sunday night. Trey, was there. I thought it was great to see Phil w Trey. didn't really expect it and it was a great surprise. I've always enjoyed phish and trey and it was really fun to see he and joan rocking out together. buckets of rain was so awesome!! what a bust out!! has phil ever played that before? the ensuing watchtower was a real barn burner!!
second set was also great! cool to hear trey trading the verses with phil and joan. gimmie shelter was much better than the times I saw it in November/Dec. cool to hear wolfman's bro I thought, as well.

what a great three nights, so far. cool to see phil and the deadheads take up residancy at the beacon again! so fun seeing so many friendly zoners and meeting TONS of new ones! it really is a great little piece of cyberspace we have here. I am sorry that not every zoner was here and got to meet/hang with everybody else. it definitely puts this place in a different perspective and reminds you what this place is really about... imo, it's really about your real relationships with these other folks on this internet message board. all-be-it that we never would have known each other had there not been the zone, Many zoners I have real friendships with and am very glad that we met up and became friends over the last several years. it’s great fun not being able to walk around the beacon for more than a couple of minutes without having someone call out either my real name or zone name and hanging out and talking for a few. I am a very social person, and this place has connected me with way more deadhead friends than I would have been able to meet on my own. For that, I definitely have the zone to thank!! It’s always great meeting new people from here as well and I really enjoyed meeting so many people for the first time this weekend.

Well, I guess my review wound up being only party about the actual shows. Oh well, it is a review of series one as I saw it/

Anyhow, already looking forward to tonight!! Happy valentine’s day everybody and hope to see a bunch of you tonight!! Come on, 5:30!!! :-)

Thanks Phil. It is great to have the phil bombs rocking NYC again. And the bass certainly shook the Old vaudeville theater many times this weekend.

Phil bombs during Caution and Feedback pn Saturday was amazing!!! Joan was having her ears blown out by her ear monitors. I was under the 1st balcony in the orch section. My whole body was vibrating from the Phil bombs. The best Phil bombs I have heard or felt in years!

One question:

What's up with all the "sing along" folks in NYC? Fucking unbelievable. I felt like I was at a Raffi concert at some points. Shut up and let the people on stage do the singing.

Here's my take on it all, All 3,458 words of it....

SOAR > CP > MET > PHIL > COSM > PHIL > BLIZZARD > PHIL w/ TO teases Through-Out!

HOLY SHIT did we have a great time!!!!!
Thanks to all the NYC area Zoners we hung out with for
making it one of the best Phil Runs I’ve ever been on!!!

So we Dropped off the Dogs and headed out for NYC.
We took the I-80 route out and I thought we had wasted time goin that way
but as we found out on the way back it not any shorter than the 70 route.

Anywho once we got in range I gave Schmegg a ring
and it was over to the train station to pick him up.

Time for the infamous Steak on a Rock!!!!!!

This, my friend, was definitely as good as advertised, and if ya haven’t had it….
Yer missin’ out. Started out with some nice, Garlic Shrimp & Stuffed Mushrooms,
then they bring out the Steak……………..Holy Bejebbus!!!!!! What a cut of meat!!!!
Now way can you even buy that RAW here in Columbo.
So we’re finishing the meal and all the sudden two dudes show up at a Reserved Table.
One of the two has this UNBELIEVABLE tan, like he’s been in Africa
for the last couple of months. A.K.A. Don”Darko”…

He starts flirtin’ with my wife! We all get a chuckle out of it
and he kind of apologizes for it. Next thing ya know he’s introducing himself to us
and invites us to try his food, and buy us drinks!!!!

I KNEW what a partying weekend we had and had a BAD feelin’
that if we hung out with this cat we could be in T-R-O-U-B-L-E on Friday.
So we passed and headed to the Schmegg Shack for a 12 pack!

Ahhhhhhhhhh Phil Day!

Driving into NYC we get a call from Lites……..”Kook Pissed the Bed.”

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

We’re Hysterical in the car thinking that it for REAL!
Well Lites comes clean and we’re disappointed but know that
Something could happen anyway….well…..anyway….

Kitten has been to NYC twice. Both times were quick and really never done tourista stuff.
So we wanted to give her a good time in the City.
Soooo Many choices, but first theres a matter of parking!

The NYC parking Ballet is a thing of beauty if ya get in the city in time.
We arrived at about 11:30 and started lookin’ for the free stuff.
Zig-Zaggin for about a dozen blocks we finally realized the ALL the double parked cars
were waiting for the street sweepers and 12:30.
12:15 the Sweeper rolls on by and at least 30 cars SWOOP to the other side
and idle till 12:30! We’re parked ½ a block from the beacon a block and a half from the hotel.
SWEET-ASSED Free Parking!

Kitten was Hysterically laughing about it and what a great way
for her to start the weekend! So what to do………….

We chose the MET, as I hadn’t been there either.
She had never been in the Park so we walked across through the Ramble area.
As we’re walkin’ I’m seeing NICE boulders and the climber in me woke up.

Ahh Hold on folks I gotta do a Boulder Problem!!! My shoes weren’t right,
the Rock was cold as hell but….I managed to pull one off
& have now officially “Climbed” in Central Park! That was a really Nice Bonus.

So we get to the Met, Breeze on in and get on with the tour.
The building wasn’t too packed and we were able to move as fast or as slow as we wanted.
Sculpture, Metal work, Masks and all kinds of antiquities then Greg says,
let’s go see some paintings…….

Well we turn down a hall, past a partition and I run into Dali’s
“Crucifixion (‘Hypercubic Body’)…………….I am KNOCKED the F OUT!
Dali IS my all time favorite artist. I’ve made special trips every time
I’m near them to see Dali’s work. This one I didn’t expect.

Moving on past the Chagall’s, Monet’s, Picassos, & just tons of important artists,
we move into another room and BAM…
I’m KTFout again! I'm face to face with O’Keefe’s “Red, White and Blue”,
Damn I LOVE that painting and again never expected it.
There were quite a few others by her there, and as much as I like that one painting
of hers and some others, I was never a HUGE fan………That’s Changed!
After seeing her work close up I was really stunned looking at the brush work,
absolutely beautiful! Hell man at this point, I’ve already decide I’m good to go
and everything else is just an icing on the cake!

My Brain is a little overloaded getting to view some of the things
that I’ve been wanting to see my entire life.
So for a while the museum kinda blurred by for me…
as Greg and Kitten looked at things my brain was still wrapped
around a few thing that I had already seen.

Once we got to the American section I came out of my stupor
and was fresh to soak in the Wright Display, The Tiffany stuff,
Stickney, Green, then really trippin on the 360 degree panorama of Versailles.

Caution Overload!!!! Anyway it’s time for us to get on to the room and Pre-Game!

By the time we caught the cab and got back to the Beacon
it was still to early for us to check in so it off to Casa de Lites.
They’re rockin out and we’re ready to join on in!
So a bunch of Beers later and we gotta go check in. Phone tag GALORE!

Time for a Time Out! Woooooo Hooooo Zoners everywhere,
I’m meetin folks for the first and second time left and right! What a blast!!!!!!!!

& certainly the first time at the Beacon. She’s KTFout right away going into the theater!
So I go directly to the merch to get my posters and stuff.

Disappointment.

I didn’t like the Biffle too much & the Mouse food drive is, well,
a Bumper sticker made real big so I’m a little bummed (It’s Unsigned also).
Hell the show poster isn’t even numbered and there weren’t any signed by Phil.
Well I got the show poster anyway and the Conscious Food Alliance Signed Mouse poster.

So it’s off to the seats and time to rock out. From NY, NY > Playin I was Real Good
…. But then, Cold Roses….I was like WTF?!?!?!? Not really digging this the West L.A.
not too into this….No More do I now a SLOOOOOOW tune Oh man I’m Fadin here….
Then Finally I started to get off on the Love the One your with
& then the closer Lovelight was SCHMOKIN!

Whew time for a cig and ZONER Madness in the Pen!
Digital delirium sets in and I’m getting pretty happy and then it’s time for set 2.

We’re Happy as a clam with the After Midnight!

So we go upstairs and see some Zoners, Schwadude is “Bobby Sweatin’” the Balcony
folks needin plastic like a Gallagher show. Then outta the Blue, Kitten sees the Pendant
and Freaks you couldn’t see it from our seats in the Loge!!! WTF is THAT?!?!?!?
I laugh and explain & we move on and back down to the Loge.

We get back in Birdsong and it was sweet, then ahhhhh my FAV!

and we’re about to go to C.O.S.M……………ahhhhhhh can’t wait.

so w/o getting chow we headed down there to meet up with the Zoners for the big field trip.

A Subway ride and some walkin and we’re there awww man I am tingly with excitement!!!!

As I walk past the Store, I see the first original I see is in there &
D’oh, I’m smacked in the left side of my brain and I haven’t EVEN see shit yet.
Walking into the Chapel my jaw hit the floor…………….

And… it …. Never …..left….the….floor

The entire time I was there I was in a trance, my voice was crackin,
sentences incomplete and incoherent.

So I walk in and the first painting I see is “Birth”, 15mins, I can’t move
and can not take my eyes off of the painting, Detail after detail,
layer of painting after layer all reveled, stuff I’ve never noticed in pictures.
So I start to move around and I’m being Blown away everywhere I look
and then I see the, “Theologe”…

This thing made me weak in the Knees, I had to sit and really soak this thing in.
It’s HUGE and with the residue from the night before warping my vision
I get sucked into the painting unlike anything I’ve ever experienced!
I have no Idea how long I looked at it.
Then I glance to the right and see my Favorite painting from the stuff I’d seen
the,”Oversoul”. Too be completely Honest I had tear pop out,
My happiness was overwhelming.

After that I was viewing everything from a technical aspect.
Paying Great attention to the Brushwork, Details,
the Glazing techniques he uses to create the Glowing effects on the paintings
searching out the hidden details in some of the larger pieces
smiling at the hidden meanings and jokes.
Again Amazed at the SIZE of the works as you can’t tell most of the time
from books or Photos…On & On just too much.

Then I get a tap on the shoulder and someone says,
“Hey did ya see the Chapel”? I Kinda half laugh & half snort… Nope where?
So I round that corner and Close my eyes and shake my head….
Man I can not believe what I’m seeing….The hairs on the back of my neck raise
as I view everything from the spiritual fields of the body, the Magnetic,
acupuncture, skeletal, muscular systems..blah, blah, blah, on & on…..
Tooo much once again…

Then there’s the Microcosm gallery, you walk in and BAM Garcia’s “ Snake”
an Oil and Gold on Glass….Very, very folksy, a couple pieces of Grey’s wife's work
and some other Trippy artists works rounded out and incredible start to the day!
I gotta thank the Zoners that also went…It was really cool to be able to go with a bunch
of folks you have a connection with and see they’re also having a great time,
it was really special.

Walkin in a daze to the subway I’m hungry so after a train ride it off to a deli
for some KICK ASS Soup, Thanks Greg! And Time for Pre game once again!

Pre…..More Zoners, More Beer, More FUN!

The Show…….OH WHAT A SHOW!!!!

First off, THANK YOU RUBY for Hookin this cat up with 3rd row dead centerish!!!
Kittens first run at the beacon and shes actually really EXCITED!
Once were in the seats shes chatty Cathy, Ohhh Man this place rocks,
wow look at that, Oh I’m excited…

Hold that thought…..Only one other time have I heard that come outta her…
at NYE 2000. I’m Freakin Ecstatic at this point!!!

So the lights go down and the Band walks out………heh
Jam into China Rider. Offffahhhhhhh so Friggin HOT, and Zoinks my back is Killing me!!
So I’m reduced to Head banging like an 80’s Kiss Fan. Oh well My brain is stiil in COSM
and now Phil is assaulting the grey matter ohh the BLISS.

Scarlet Rockin’ and Bopin’, Wheel, Ohhhh man that Pedal Steel is SWEET!
and Let it Ride, I’m good wit it, I’m Down…..
These were a real NICE center section of a set.

Then Blisters in the Paint….WoooooHooooooo Cumberland
FUCKIN ROCKED. Period.

Closing it out with the warm and fuzzies UJB was a great closer.

Time to go Freak wit the peeps over what just happened!!!!!
The Pens was completely a BUZZ! Hootin’ and hollerin’, everyone just blown away
at how good the show is and chattin’ about how good it’s gonna be when
Warren walked out!

JUST before we go back into the theater I bump into Art.
I say here take my ticket and go down for two songs. His First time in NYC
and all it involves so I thought it’d be real cool for him to get the full treatment.
So of course when Warren did walk out and he wasn’t expecting it the dude was happy.
He gets a Shakedown > Viola…NICE…
Meanwhile back in his seat I’m Rockin’ the F out!!!!! Stoked a I called a Viola triple decker
sandwich for the evening! And with Warren in it Ohh man SCHMOKIN…..
The second Hard to Handle came on I switched with Art and went back down
(With a BIG Hassle from the usher that saw us trade tickets).
Man Viola > HTH , it hardly gets ANY better for this cat!!! Joan was beltin’ it out
and struttin’ around and suddenly she locked for me,
“This Chick…I’m way good with it!” Back into Viola & then the Rip DADDY Bertha,
WOW!!!! Man Kitten gets her all time favorite Dead tune,
on a trip were kinda celebrating our 22 years together on in the Beacon???
Cha-Ching…I Score Big points for this!!!....and am Grinnin’ from Ear to Ear as I watch her.
Back into the Viola whewwww man I am GLAD the took a break at the end of that…
lemme catch my breath!

Then Phil picks up BIG BROWN…….My Eyes are Gonna see the Glory of the Phil…….
(Side Note, My moneys on Phil doing covers only with it to bring some cred to those tunes..
just speculation)

Anyway During the Bartering Lines > Feedback Caution > Feedback,
standing 3rd row I was Mesmerized & as blown away as at the gallery earlier!
During Feedback Joan was Cringing from the volume, while I was soaking it in
like warm rays of sunlight after being in a Cave all day, SPECTACULAR!!!!
Then Rock’em Sock’em Tapecat…Bam the Caution….Flash movie synchronicity!!!
Back into more feedback, Jaw meet floor.
Weaving around and then Fire….
The beacon was Rippin! Plop in a NFA to close man we got a treat tonight.

Now after the Donor Rap when Barry, Warren & Larry all walked out
I was Really Stoked! Man how fitting for the Strawberry,
and personally Kitten was Happy as we’d Central parked it the day before.
Rob just wails on that tune and I love it. Then Comes a Time…
Just call me Cheshire Cat at this point, THIS tune, the double encore,
Damn I’m Happy and Kitten and I dance the song away together, really Nice! Then….

Smack me ONE MORE TIME….Whoa, the Golden Road,
Phil’s up there bouncing around Rob…..Lottery ball.
Warren and Larry rippin back and forth making me think…”
There a Band that needs to form with those two!!!”.
Totally AMAZING SHOW!!!!

So we bask after in the seats till the Get the Fuck out Call…
We look out the side door on the man floor and Snow is blowing in
about 15 seats into the building and we’re thing whoa…….
This’ll be interesting……
Now as we walk back to the room we reflect on Schmegg's
earlier comments about an EPIC snowstorm an chuckle…..

Back at the Post, the room was RAVING about the show,
EXCITED about the snow for the most part. Havin a GOOD Ol’ Time
and after a while Art got to play which was real Nice,
He did a Bang-Up job for sure!

Nice Job Man!!!

Around just before dawn we retired to our Hotel to crash.
It was a Block away and in full view of the 25 floor Beacon hotel.
We drank a few more beers in the room and watched the weather worsen by the Minute.
WAVE, after wave of snow coming down the Canyons, and at one point the Beacon
was completely in a white out, could see it at all.
I turn to Art & say Dude you ain’t goin’ home. The room crashes but I’m still to Buzzed out
from the entire day and can not sleep, so I wander through the snow
marveling at the silence, beauty & calm. After a Nice Breakfast
I head back starting to thing about the condition of our Car……Hmmmm

Hmmm Things are getting Phishy…….

Sunday comes we are Very Tired. One look out the window and we KNOW
were not venturing out for anything more than Eating.
Our roommates all came and went as the need arose, we were cheering Art
on in his quest to get off work scott free! NYC Games…
It was a fun morning of chatting and story telling, Good times.

We went directly to the TO for the pre only find a Major decline in Peeps
so we went back to the room for last Non-Beacon beer prices.
Damn that beer SUCKED, clean those lines bitches!

On to the show……We had Nice seats for Sunday got settled and saw Warrens Stand
STILL on stage wooo Hoooo errrr what, what what!
That stand is gone and TREY is up there…….Cough, cough.

Ok wasn’t gonna, but Hell I’ll Peak at the Beac, one more time
to even the playing field and go with an open mind.
It didn’t really matter though.

The show was OK.

I could really go on about anything as nothing was really standout to me
Trey’s playing seemed real flat and uninspired never getting anywhere
near as intricate as Barry or Warren.

The antics…..Wow, where did all that come from?????

Set 1:

Help On The Way >
Slipknot >
Franklin's Tower - Alright
Up On Cripple Creek > - WHY? Not likin this..
They Love Each Other > - Too fast
Cold Rain & Snow (jam) > Ohhh man Kick me in the shin for NOT doing it

The Other One > Ohh Toes get stepped on, weired vocals!!! BIG BOMBS
Dark Star > Where was the Ripping solos, I’m not counting dancemusic as a solo.
Eyes Of The World > Larry on Violin…Frikin Sweet Solo!!!
Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad - FUN
Gimme Shelter – Again FUN
Crowd / donor rap
E: Wolfman's Brother – LORD HAVE MERCY, can I have that time back???
Midnight Hour * OK shows over time for the BIG drive.

All in all it was an OK show the crowd in NYC is enough to
Pump things up to fun level no matter what yer seein!!!!

Thanks PHIL

Thanks NY & NJ Folks!!!!!

Thank You BEACON!

We had a FUCKIN BLAST!

Out into the street one last time, and back to the Post for a few more toasts,
and camaraderie. Art knocked out a few more tunes, we laughed,
drank and smoked till the we hours.
Then back at our Hotel Uvaldi & I Killed the Wounded knee Cashes of Beers.

Once everyone settled down I went out into the glow of the Dawn after seeing Greg off.
With a shovel in Hand from the kindly folks at the desk I cleared the car out of a 5 ft.
snow plow-in/drift/sidewalk clearing. Almost 2 1/2ft. on top of the car
I had to clear by hand…Offfahhhhhh chilly.
About an Hour or so later I finished and jetted back to the hotel.

Passed the Fuck Out!

Woke to the buzz of, getting the room ship-shape to leave.
Then there was the cat & mouse of getting our car and Arts car
at the same place at the same time to convoy outta there.
Luckily it wasn’t a problem and in no time really we were out on the turnpike!

Drop of Irv.

The we go to pick up the Poochies only to find out Juno attacked my friends dog
and made holes that leaked blood….Grrrr .

Home.
Beer.

SOFA.

BLISS!!

I Just wanna thank you, for a real GOOD TIME!

NICE REVIEW TC:-)
