Just got back into town today from KC. I did the I-70 shuffle, my only two shows of the Fall Tour. I enjoyed the KC show over the STL show. But I have no complaints what so ever. Both shows were very well played. Phil gave me the blues in St. Louis & rock 'n' roll in Kansas City. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Thank you so much Phil, Jackie, Larry, John, Steve and everyone else associated with the band!!!

Phil & Friends blew the roof off the Uptown Theater last night!!! Very high energy show with Jackie Greene taking the lead on guitar and vocals. Unbelievable!!! The entire show is a highlight. This has to be the top show of the tour, so far. The band was on fire!!! None of the bluesy stuff Phil played in St. Louis the night before. This show was pure rock 'n' roll!!! I had a third row center seat (via GDTSTOO) right in front of Phil. The crowd was awesome, singing along to every song. I dug the venue, too. My first time there. I really liked the smaller stage at the Uptown compared to the larger stage at the Pageant. I haven't seen Phil so happy in a very long time. Lots of smiling faces on stage at both shows. I can't remember Phil being this enthusiastic on stage, probably since the GD Family Reunion shows at Alpine. I think Jackie has given Phil some new found energy. Those two mesh well together. Wish I could see more shows on this tour, b/c it's only going to get better.

hey now~ nice review Uncle John, I am glad that you had such a positive experience

yesterday I spent quite a bit of time reflecting on the show and then posted my review~ I should have waited to post my review here instead of the temp zone, cuz now it's gone, oh well

my show experience at KC was not as groovy as yours, but then, one man's show can be so different from another's experience

good show, not grate, lacking energy most of the show, better in 1st set than second set, the *magic* was just not there, though I guess it can't be every night

plus 1st row ain't wait it's cracked up to be

the venue SUCKS~ very red, except when some asshole is starting a fight with your husband, they are non-exsistent, but pack and puff and they are all over ya

I coined the Uptown the "Uptight" after Mule Feb 2005 and it still is

BUT
all that being said, I AM GRATEFUL to see Phil once again and do hope that I get another chance cuz I would hate for that experience to be my last on the Phil train, I give the show a C

ROCK ON PHIL~ BRING IT TO CHICAGO BABEEEEEEEEEE

peace

Server be back. Sweet.

I caught KC. Here are some of the positives of what I walked away with:

-- Cool venue. The ability to have a good choice of hotels to walk to after the show and not have to deal with a parking lot scene is pretty nice. (I can't wait for my NYC run!)

-- I walked away being pretty impressed with Jackie.

Now the negatives:

-- Phil's gotta be turned up in the mix. Maybe it was the acoustics of the place, my multiple seating locations, the PA, dunno... but I just couldn't hear Phil.

-- Don't get me wrong, it was a great show, but when it comes to Phil shows, it was a pretty low energy show. Of course we're all stoked to be there.... but it seemed like this ensenble didn't "bring it" like they almost always do.

Examples:
Remember Caution! at Chicago Theatre?
For the KC locals, remember Viola Lee the year prior?
What about Sitting on top of the world (or Pride of C.) at the Ryman?

All in all... a good show and a great time. I can't wait to see them in NYC. Maybe more time to gel is what they need.

a good assessment DooDah

I had gotten more into the technical review on the temp board

I DO dig Jackie

I agree with your negative comments
I too could not hear Phil that well, it may have to do with where we sat, but I felt like he was on the backburner and that's not what I expect from DA MAN
and , perhaps I have been spoiled by being at those show where the magic was abound, but I felt at the KC show like our plane never left the runway

I reread UJ's review and it just goes to show how reviews are so personal and can very so much

eh..I guess I'm just spoiled from better performances lately (Ratmock, STS9)..tom thumbs was cool..couldn't really hear anybody very well cept' for Molo..accessibility to the floor was nice althought the balcony has better sound..fairly nice crowd..Sammy Adams on tap..it wasn't horrible.

I made it to the Uptown show 5th row. Indeed we were treated to an awsome show. I think Phil made an excellent choice with Greene.

On the down side, I think the keyboard player was just lost. He spent the night staring at his sheet music stand sort of wondering what to play.

Yes Phils bass was way too low.

All in all a better phil show
