I can not believe what people are selling tickets for up here. I'm broke and thought $55 was a bit far fetched. Now there's some dude on Craigslist asking $400 for a ticket!!!! WTF! They better play "Live Dead" better than the original for that kind of loot....

As they oozed from Cryptical into TOO the music semmed tentative; disconnected - they almost came to a stop. I was worried that they had totally lost it when Phil gets this wicked grin on his face, hits THOSE 13 notes and they SLAM into TOO with all cylinders firing!

They were just fucking with our heads.

Great, great show last night. Some highlights:
-They had a really cool jam going in Cryptical. It kind of fizzled for a bit and then absolutely slammed into the Other One.
-Cold Rain and Snow was huge. Really long version, big jams between each verse.
-New Speedway was also bigtime. Jackie sang this so well, really digging into each line. Great jams here as well.
-I couldb't believe it when they started Help. It was already about 1230 at that point and I'd expected the show to end at 12. They even had signs up at the bars saying "Phil and Friends, 8-12". I guess Phil doesn't care about curfews.
-All in all a great show, 3.5 hours + of music. Can't wait to see what's in store tonight, hopefully more of that '68 magic.

I'm still shaking off the cobwebs from last night. Powerhouse show; great intensity and Phil really went old school during the first set in homage to the Dead's Crystal shows. Only complaint is I would have liked to hear Jackie sing more; he really puts a lot of heart and soul into interpreting Jerry's songs especially. Larry's soloing during Althea was exceptional; it seems like a simple song but as a guitar player I know those changes are not the easiest to get a flow going over; Jerry struggled with it many a night, but Larry was just twanging the shit out of it.

Wow! Very cool flashback indeed. Hope Purp was there to get the healing energy.

Glad to hear how well received the shows have been out west. I felt the shows last tour were leading up to this 'next level' !!!!!

Hope Phil stops by Mountain Jam and/or gives us east coasters more this summer.

Enjoy tonight, and THANK YOU AGAIN PHIL AND FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!

Looks my pics are too big for that. Any suggestions?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By secgenddhd (The11jam) on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 - 02:45 pm: Edit Post

open them in paint

go to image>attributes to check the size

then go to image>stretch/skew to adjust accordingly

just keep the % drops the same so the pic doesnt get messed up, save them.

then go and post it again

after you put the appropiate command in \image {.} (without that space), it will prompt you to upload the file, then you do so, good luck...

I'll second the comment "Larry's soloing during Althea was exceptional"...after kind of wrapping his thing up there was a crowd cheer groundswell that was almost as loud as the band...that got a big 'ole smile from Phil :-)

I've only seen Phil twice since 1995 and never with P&F...but this show made me real happy and glad to be seeing him! Can't wait to see what's in store for tonight!!

So i wonder what happened with the Clementine. It is a strange one to play. Phil must not have been comfortable with the sound or something cause he played the 2/2/68 set verbatim minus the Clementine. Maybe tonight "the good lord willing......"

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Dean Moriarty (Further1) on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 - 03:22 pm: Edit Post

So can anyone tell if the Other One lyrics were sang a la the original "When i woke up this morning my head was not in sight I would ask the walls about it but they vanished over night...." IF that being the case will they then sing the new version tonight just as in '68?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Daniel Wilson (J4j_2008) on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 - 06:53 pm: Edit Post

No.. Phil sang the normal lyrics to TOO. I can only figure that he has a tough enough time remembering the actual lyrics (there might have be a slight slip in Viola in this regard) and that breaking out Bobby's alternate version would be stretching him too far..

Great show, looking forward to tonight. Thank goodness Phil came back to the Northwest!

Oh Philzone page, click on Formatting and it explains everthing, except the fact that all images must be 500 x 500. This should link you directly to the images section:

Nice call Poz.... That segment took the show to another level. As I said over in other stuff, sandwiching the '68 material with the later material was a great way of honoring what the dead did and where Phil is now.

The Crystal Ballroom is a beautiful venue and for night one I found myself some room to move at the top of the balcony just behind the last row of seats. Set 1 started with Viola the first of 5 songs repeated from Mardi Gras in Portland. It was a fun dancin’ Viola into that sweet sweet Cryptical > Other One > Cryptical. Really wasn’t a big fan of the Good Morning little School Girl. It was way to swinging for me. I for one prefer to be raunchy with my school girls. Birdsong was pretty and it was nice to hear. Then Mexican Girl……hmmmm what to say about Mexican Girl. Well I’ve got nothing good to say about it and we’ll leave it at that. Great thumpin’ Cold Rain And Snow to close the first set.

Set 2 night 1 was the standout set for me. Rockin Bertha got us moving but goddamn did Larry Cambell take Althea to some amazing places go Larry this place is getting hot!!! The New Speedway was well played Jackie nailing the vocals into Mts Of The Moon with Larry on bouzouki. Mts was way spacy and trippy possibly a combo of the music and things I had ingested. I was loving the lights during Mts. Terrapin was rockin, probably not the best played piece of music of the night but fun none the less. The jam into the wheel was sinister and gorgeous all at once moving slow and building till they awakened the sleeping giant that is The Wheel. Really well played Wheel into HOLY SHIT Help On The Way, go Molo go then BAM Slipknot. I must say Jackie really kept up with the rest of the boys on the Slipknot it was perfectly executed into a sublime Not Fade Away. Phil gives Jackie a hug and they leave the stage.

The band left the stage the crowd kept the clap going while I looked around the venue chatting up the kids on either side of me. Band comes back out, I wonder what they’re gonna play? Not reall give me that Franklins Tower and they delivered.

What a freaking wonderful night surrounded by wonderful people. I love you zoners your awesome, hilarious, generous, freaky and a bunch of other adjectives that are escaping me right now.

I love all of ya
