I thought these guys were sloppy and not into it AT ALL... I hate to be on here badmouthing people, but I have seen better Dead cover bands that were tighter and waaaaay more into the music.

I could tell the crowd was feeling my pain too as we all watched the Fire Jugglers do their thing at the top of the hill. The notes were not tightly arranged, and there was absolutely no emotion or build up or tightness in any of the songs.

My friends in San Fran said a few months back that people outside a venue out there were hocking tickets for over $100, and on craigslist for upwards of $120. ???

I don't understand what is going on here. I drank only about a 6 pack at the time they came on so I was pretty much all there for their mountain jam set.

Did I just catch them on a bad night? I have seen a local cover band "Reckoning" in NY play way better than that many many times and blow my socks off with improvs and awesome segues that made my skin tingle. They have been around for about 15-20 years... Now I am wondering why they don't do this professional Dead road tour like DSO.

To me, the more the band is "into it" when playing the dead's songs is what does it and gets everyone paying attention, not just re-gurgitating the same exact notes that Jerry and the boys played. I guess DSO just wasn't into it ???

anyone?

Mike - please re-post in the "Other Stuff" folder, there's way more traffic over there.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I've seen DSO a bunch of times and always have fun. Can't say they ever blew my face off, but wouldn't say they ever sucked, either. However, I totally agree about the lack of apparent emotion. Seems to me the talent is there, and I even find something intersting, in a bizarre postmodern theatrical kinda way, about the recreating actual Dead show peice, but their affect has in my experience always been flat, and their interaction with the crowd virtually non-existent. Then again, rockin' up a sweat to a decent live Dead band for me beats headphones and killer bootleg!
