Ah, the sad and lonely review section. Not even a peep here in weeks.

Anyway, I went to see Robert Plant's new project at The Beacon last night and it was terrific.

This is NOT Robert Plant backed by music school students getting their Led on, this is a real, functioning and evolving band led by the awesome Buddy Miller. He rivals Larry Campbell as a band leader with chops. Patty Griffin needs no introduction she's just so fuckin beautiful and talented and brought a whole sexy fun vibe to an already tight and spontaneous band. She was smoldering on harmonies especially on I'm In The Mood (For A Melody). Darrell Scott was perhaps the MVP, playing everything stringg: Lap steel, Bazouki, banjo, guitar. And then there was Robert, singing playing harmonica (wish there was more) stepping aside so the band could jam. Listening participating, more another instrument that a front man.

They did more Zep than I expected. Opened with a cool version of Black Dog (I think they open with a revolving Zeppelin on this tour). Almost didn't recognize it. Others were more recognizable the best being Ramble On and Gallow's Pole.

They did a Richard Thompson song which right now I can't recall but it was sweet. It will come to me...there was pre-game involved.

Each of the three song writers did their own song the best coming as a cover of Satisfied Mind from Darrell Scott.

Do yourself a favor and see this band. They reminded me a bit of Larry/Jackie Phil and Friends only a lot tighter and minus the bombast.

This is an excellent band. I would go again tonight if I could.

I'm going to the Chicago show. I'm REALLY stoked; I've seen Plant solo twice before, and this should be the best band yet! Roughly, how long was the show? Encore?

Thanks for the effort to write a review.

I must say that these reviews of the shows in NYC have peaked my interest in going to this in my area.

I'm not a big Plant fan generally; IMO a little too much bombast of his own, but this sounds good.

I went the second night at the Beacon and I thought it was OK at best. Never really caught fire. Short show, maybe 90 minutes including encore. Thought the opener North Mississippi All Star Duo was the highlight of the night.

Just a couple more weeks until the Chicago show. I'm really excited! Anyone know about how tough or lax the security is at that venue? thanks!
